About Our Family

We are the Hunyadis: E.J., Sherry, Gelli, and Brendon.  The surname is Hungarian… a name with a rich history.  Both of E.J.’s parents were born in Hungary, and Hungarian was E.J.’s first language.  Considering how well he writes and speaks English, you’d never know it.  You can always check out the inner workings of the E.J. at www.burnerblog.com.  He was an MP in the U.S. Marine Corps for 12 years, and still carries a love for the Corps and country. Now, E.J. is a technical writer and voice actor by trade, but at heart he is a music aficionado and natural group leader.  He has managed to rule some of the largest cities & guilds in several MMORPG’s including Star Wars Galaxies, Eve Online, Bounty Bay Online, and ASRL Racing.

Gelli is our darling teenage daughter – bright, beautiful, and fearless.  The perfect trifecta for teenage trouble.  Fortunately for us all, she is a good, smart girl, and manages to make the right decision most of the time.  Gelli is a freshman in high school this year, and has had no trouble so far making her own waves, even as a little fish in the big pond.  She taught herself to play the guitar this summer, and has already written several songs that she hopes to perform in a small venue later this year.  She is very active in her school theatre department as well as an organization called Class Act Productions where she has been cast in several musical productions.  Gelli shares her dad’s passion for music, and can always impress her friends by listening to “good” music before it becomes “pop”.  She also accompanies her dad to concerts whenever she can, and has a knack for charming the performers into talking to her after the shows.

Brendon is our tough teenage son, almost 2 years younger than his sister, but a good 4 inches or so taller.  Brendon’s passions are fast cars (particularly Hyundai Tiburons), computer games, and football.  Brendon just fininished his 3rd year of football, playing for his school’s 7th grade team.  He was on the line for the starting offense and defense, and was also the team’s kicker.  In school, Brendon has a knack for Math, and a love of Art.  He has been taking Art classes in school for 3 years now, and he really enjoys the creative process.  Brendon is also a fiercly loyal friend, often standing up to bullies when those that he claims as friends are threatened.   At home, he’s the one that worries about everyone but himself, and gives great hugs.

I’m Sherry, the most recent addition to this happy band.  I met E.J. about 5 years ago through our mutual blogger friend, Elaine (AKA Cybertoad).  We clicked almost immediately, and I was heartily accepted into his and the children’s lives.  We married on April 26th, 2003.   E.J. is absolutely my best friend and soul mate… my other half.  Brendon and Gelli are my kids, through and through.  I’ve been “Mom” for so long, I don’t really remember what it was like not to be.  I graduated from Texas A&M University in 1999, and am currently employed as a Software Architect.  That’s a fancy term for someone who solves problems with software.  Most of my projects involve customers who have no idea what they want.  I help them figure it out, and then create it.  In my sparse free time, I enjoy scrapbooking, sewing, and reading.  But my passion is musical theatre.  I recently appeared as Bloody Mary in The Woodlands Reperatory Theatre’s inaugural production, South Pacific along with everyone else in the family.  It was my first stage performance since high school, and I loved every minute of it.   I’m hoping to continue to pursue that passion whenever I can.

  • Hi! I am English, but have Hungarian ancestor(s) with your surname. One of my ancestors was Girbi Hunyadi, during the 1800s – was she by any chance in your family line too? Since then, my family surnames have been Todor & Lippay – I wonder whether your older relatives have heard of these? One of my male ancestors – Peter Lippay -emigrated to the USA in the early 1900s, & supposedly married a Polish countess (!!??)
It would be fab if there is any link with you. I cannot speak Hungarian, so trying to trace my family history has been difficult! Thanks. Jo
